Mashari Rashid Al-Afasi - Tala‘ al-badru ‘alaynā

Mashari Rashid Al-Afasi - Classic Nasheed

Mashari Bin Rashid Al-Afasi's version of the most well-known nasheed: Tala' al-Badru 'Alaina. A beautiful rendition with an excellent video.

A calming serene version of the best loved, best known nasheed, by our dear shaykh Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy. May Allah reward him for his efforts.

Tala‘ al-badru ‘alaynā
Oh the white moon rose over us

Min thanīyātil-wadā‘
From the valley of al-Wadā‘.

Wajab al-shukru ‘alaynā
And we owe it to show gratefulness

Mā da‘á lillāhi dā‘
Where the call is to Allah.

Ayyuhal mab‘ūthu fīnā
Oh you who were raised among us

Ji’ta bil-amri al-mutā‘>
Coming with a word to be obeyed

Ji’ta sharaft al-madīnah
You have brought to this city nobleness

Marḥaban yā khayra dā‘
Welcome best caller to God's way

Story behind the song

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), when he first brought Islam to the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, he was mistreated and rejected. Some believed in his message and accepted Islam; they were brutally tortured. After some time, he and his people made the Hijrah, or migration, to the city of Medina, Saudi Arabia. The message had spread and the people of Medina had become Muslim. They were very excited for him to come because they’d accepted a way of life (and religion) and they were about to live in the presence of the Prophet that brought it once again to mankind (after Abraham, Moses, Jesus, etc.). As he and his people entered the city, the people of Medina sang this song to welcome him, and it’s lasted for fourteen hundred years in our hearts.
